Colorado has a vibrant entrepreneurial community. A group of entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, lawyers, and The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County have created the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Colorado to work with local entrepreneurs to help endow Colorado.

The Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation-a 50-year-old charitable organization that provides grants to organizations like the Animal Care League and West Suburban PADS-is taking a big step into the future.
The foundation is receiving a $2 million grant from the Grand Victoria Foundation (a 12-year-old program run by the Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin). In addition, if the foundation can raise $2 million, Grand Victoria will match it, bringing the foundation's total to $6 million.

In honor of October, Family History Month, the Marshall District Library is proud to announce the official unveiling of our online newspaper database. Historic Marshall newspapers from 1838 through 1930 are currently available at the library on the Marshall District Library's website at www.marshalldistrictlibrary.org. Persons can access this link at the library for free or outside the library for a fee, $100 per year or $14 per month.

The Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia, The IMPACT! Group, The Brand Banking Company and a network of local builders are partnering to provide down payment assistance for consumers who buy a home in Northeast Georgia.
Tough economic times and the recent turmoil in the mortgage market have made it harder to secure mortgage loans. For buyers without funds for a down payment, the dream of home ownership has become even more elusive.

If Congress fails to pass a bailout package, the damage to the economy will be "painful and lasting," for all citizens, President Bush told the nation Tuesday.
Jim Harrison, Carlsbad Community Foundation executive director, said he agrees with the president. Locally, it could become very painful for organizations and other recipients of annual funds from the foundation.

Leadership Long Beach, a nonprofit organization that initiates programs to improve the quality of life in the city, has agreed to pay Gazette Newspapers several thousand dollars for two pages of North Long Beach news articles. The agreement covers the purchase of the pages twice a month for a year beginning in about two weeks. A Gazette spokesperson said that typically in a yearlong contract, the two pages would cost $1240 each time they run.

Today, all organizations should have a game plan — a business plan. Whether for-profit or not-for-profit, we want to execute well so we can be successful. Quick decisions and avoiding the "rush" with the desire to win could get us to halftime, but that might not be enough to come out on top at the end of the game. Increasing fear about what unanticipated "plays" might come at us (e.g. market instability) make it even more imperative that organizations remain committed to thorough business planning.
We know this well at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona where we have just completed our first business plan after 28 years in operation. (more…)

The Friends of the Demopolis Public Library was recently awarded a $1,000 grant from the Black Belt Community Foundation (BBCF).
““This grant will help the library increase the number of public access computers and help the library meet the technology needs of our community,” library director Morgan Grimes said.

Representatives from the Wells Fargo Foundation announced Thursday, September 25, a new grant for $250,000 to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation (USHCC Foundation) to continue efforts to build the capacity of Hispanic Chambers of Commerce. The new grant will build on activities started in 2007 by the USHCC Foundation. Those previous activities were funded by a grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation to identify the needs of local and regional Hispanic Chambers of Commerce. The announcement was made during the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 29th Annual National Convention and Business Expo.
