The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation has become one of the great success stories in a town filled with success stories.
Established in 1991 to manage charitable funds and disburse grants to nonprofit agencies, the foundation has grown to the point where it awarded more than $9.5 million during the fiscal year that ended June 30, a 51 percent increase over the previous year.

Wild Rivers Community Foundation has spearheaded an effort to bring resources and awareness to the issue of dental disease on the Wild Rivers Coast.
"Wild Rivers Smiles!" was initiated by the foundation board, which recognized the need after consulting with the Community Assistance Network (CAN) and saw that this was a chance to convene partners to enhance community health," said Doug Morgan, executive director of CAN.

Hundreds of local residents had gathered at dusk to remember those who died in the horrific crash in Chatsworth just one week prior. Some came to share the stories of those who survived and were hospitalized or healing from their wounds. Others came because they were victims who survived the accident and wanted to be there to try to understand what had happened.

Fruitport's football loss on Friday didn't hinder supporters from celebrating and giving to the Fruitport Education Foundation.
The foundation formed in 2005, and, similar to many schools throughout Muskegon County, is operated by the Community Foundation for Muskegon County.
More than $10,000 was raised at the foundation's annual "Fifth Quarter Party" at Fruitport Auditorium. Following the game, about 270 attendees enjoyed free food, entertainment, and contributed to the silent auction and 50/50 raffle.

The Community Foundation is once again accepting grant applications for its 2008 grant cycle. Approximately $30,000 is expected to be available to selected Newton County applicants.
Grant proposals to the Newton Fund of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta are due by Oct. 20. All 501(c)3 nonprofits based in Newton County that serve county residents are invited to apply.

In existence since 1979, the Community Foundation for Oak Park is in the process of reevaluating its goals and is seeking advice from residents.
The Community Foundation's 11-member board also is seeking new participation.

If your childhood was like mine, you often heard the adults in your life reminding you to say “please” and “thank you.” Isn’t that fundamental to a polite and civil society? Some might suggest that today’s society is not as polite and civil as it once was. Maybe so. But, I want our community to know that all is not lost in our little corner of society.

More than 3000 students from the statewide Jobs for Maine’s Graduates (JMG) program learned that they will have the opportunity to work with peer groups to grant $1000 during the course of the school year to a worthy cause of their choice. And, they won’t have to wash cars or hold bake sales to do it.

On September 17th a $25,000 grant from the Monmouth County Community Foundation was presented to DonorsChoose.org at an event held at the Midtown Community Elementary School in Neptune, NJ, which included the Superintendent of Neptune Schools, Mr. David Mooij. The Monmouth County Community Foundation “Double Your Impact” campaign will be used to half fund teacher-submitted proposals from Monmouth County, New Jersey public schools.

A lot of people won’t like this post. That’s OK, life would be pretty boring if we all agreed all the time.
Yesterday in response to my post about how banks could start launching no minimum donor advised funds, Ruth Lando of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County wrote:
Why couldn’t this be done through the more than 700 community foundations nationwide? We already know how to do donor advised funds having done them most of forever…and we have a track record with Merrill Lynch for their clients through their Community Charitable Fund…
