Under the terms of the mandate, Cardinal Capital Management will manage two separate funds totaling $4.2 million for the Triangle Community Foundation. The accounts are expected to fund early in the second quarter of 2009.
"We are very honored to work with the Triangle Community Foundation, a fine organization, founded by the late Noble Laureate, Dr. George Hitchings, which has been highly effective in helping non-profit organizations in the Triangle area and beyond,” said Glenn Andrews, President of Cardinal Capital Management. We have had a very good relationship with the Triangle Community Foundation for a number of years and they have had funds invested with Cardinal Capital before this new mandate. We are delighted to have this unique opportunity to further expand and strengthen our partnership with the Triangle Community Foundation."
The Triangle Community Foundation worked with independent investment consultant, Colonial Consulting, LLC in the review of asset allocation and portfolio manager selection.

"Orchestras are not funded by ticket sales," Beaudoin said. "I don’t think people understand what it costs."
"Given the months of preparation that have already gone into this concert, this was a very difficult decision," Behrens said. "It is part of a package of decisions relating to personnel, future programming, development, and marketing strategy designed to keep the orchestra solvent and set it on a firm foundation for the future."
Similar issues surround the cancellation of the summer holiday concerts.
In Beloit, the Stateline Community Foundation and businesses sponsored the holiday show. The Stateline Community Foundation was hard hit by the stock market plunge, as well.
The symphony is already preparing for the fall 2009-2010 season and is on "solid ground," Beaudoin said.

In previous years, the Shipshewana Retail Merchants Association asked merchants to donate door prizes. Everyone who attended the association's annual dinner had the chance to win one of these prizes.
This year, because of the economic situation in LaGrange and Elkhart counties, the group decided to help others in need by instead auctioning these donations and giving the proceeds to the LaGrange Food and Clothes Basket.
The auction raised $4,400, but, thanks to two pledges to match these funds, the LaGrange Food and Clothes Basket will receive $13,200.
The LaGrange Community Foundation board of directors pledged to give $1 for every dollar raised at the auction. The second matching donation will come from a 4Community grant funded by the Lilly Foundation.

Madison Repertory Theatre Dissolved
Madison Community Foundation manages all kinds of funds, including the endowment funds for seven arts groups that reside at the Overture Center.
Foundation president Kathleen Woit said the Rep did not receive any endowment dollars this year from the Great Performance Fund because it did not have a "business plan," including a line of credit, for producing plays in 2009.
The Rep dissolved last month after canceling the last two shows of its 2008-09 season.

With so many people in need of help these days, it can be tough for those with the means to help to know just where to start. The DuPage Community Foundation has an easy answer.
The organization, which each year awards grants to help dozens of DuPage nonprofits help people in need, has more calls for help than ever this year. It's calling on the entire community to help them meet the need.
The DuPage Community Foundation Board of Trustees voted this month to increase its spring grant budget by $50,000 and they've challenged the community to do the same. The Community Crisis Challenge sets out to raise $50,000 in donations by April 5.

The first Nonprofit Summit in Frederick was not focused on bolstering organizations in an increasingly dismal economy.
But with nonprofits relying on volunteer effort, donations and grant money from both public and private sources, the bad economy was not far from anyone's mind.
More than 170 people representing 125 nonprofit organizations attended the conference Wednesday to hear from experts on three topics: volunteer, resource and board development.
The event was sponsored by the Ausherman Family Foundation in partnership with Volunteer Frederick and The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

The Yuma Community Foundation's philosophy is that local youths are among our community's most powerful resources.
Because of that, it has chosen three area high school students to serve alongside adults on the YCF Advisory Board: Ruth Megui and Bryan Benitez of Yuma High School, and Maura Martinez of San Luis High School.
"Our youth board members bring enthusiasm and a new perspective to our work," said YCF regional manager Judy Gresser. "These young people are our community's next leaders, and we are delighted to help them prepare for future roles as decision makers."
