Clanton Middle School receives grant from foundation

Clanton Middle School was one of 16 schools in Alabama that was awarded the Lowes Toolbox for Education grant from the Lowes Charitable and Educational Foundation.

Since its establishment in 1957, Lowes Charitable and Educational Foundation has helped communities nationwide through employee volunteerism and financial contributions.

Clanton Middle School received $5,600 for its S.H.E.L.F. (Schools Housing Exemplary Library Furniture) program.

The 16 schools received grants during the spring 2011 grants cycle, and they are some of the more than 480 schools or parent organizations that were awarded a grant for parent-initiated school improvement projects benefiting K-12 public education across the United States.

Through Lowes Toolbox for Education grant program, we are acknowledging parent-initiated efforts that enhance the lives of children in the communities we serve, said Marshall Croom, chairman of Lowes Charitable and Educational Foundation. for a wide range of improvement projects and large schools or school districts may be eligible to receive Toolbox grants up to $100,000 for school improvement initiatives.

Surge in applications necessitates funding cycle changes

Newswise CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (May 31, 2011) - The Focused Ultrasound Surgery Foundation reports that its research award disbursements have exceeded $2 million and funding applications have soared in recent months.

Ever since our 2010 international symposium and our more recent Focal Drug Delivery Workshop, the Foundation has been inundated with funding applications related to MR-guided focused ultrasound, says Hannah Edelen, Research and Fellowship Program Director.

Since its inception in September 2007, the Research Awards Program has filled a funding void for MR-guided focused ultrasound researchers by providing seed money for highly promising studies. Two others have funding applications pending.

The Foundation uses an independent and multidisciplinary Research Advisory Committee to review proposals and bases funding decisions on a projects ability to rapidly advance the development of reimbursable clinical indications of MR-guided focused ultrasound.

Edelen explains that, up until now, the program has accepted applications and announced funding decisions on a rolling basis.

APhA Foundation announces 2011 Pinnacle Award winners

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation announced recipients of the 2011 Pinnacle Awards, which will be given during a ceremony at the APhA headquarters, June 27, Washington, D.C.

The Pinnacle Awards, established in 1998 by the foundations Quality Center, celebrate significant contributions to the process of medication use through increased patient adherence, reduced drug misadventures, promotion of national treatment guidelines, improved patient outcomes, or enhanced communication among the members of the healthcare team.

Mel Baron, PharmD, MPA, FAPhA, FACA, FCPhA, associate professor at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy, will receive the Individual Award for Career Achievement. These comic-book-style stories impart vital health information on common conditions and dispel frequent myths and misconceptions.

The Group Practice Health System Corporation Award is being given to The Medication Assistance Program (MAP) at The Ohio State University Medical Center (OSUMC), Arthur G. This category recognizes a significant scientific contribution and/or quality improvement project.

The OSUMC MAP offers a unique service to patients, helping them obtain necessary medications through pharmaceutical manufacturers patient-assistance programs, disease-based assistance grants, charity-care dollars, and other funding sources.

Since its inception in 2001, the Medication Assistance Program has formally assisted more than 8,700 patients, processed more than 22,000 applications, and obtained more than $53 million worth of medications for either take-home or replacement purposes, announced APhA.

Community Foundation Creates Scholarship to Honor Woman's Club

The Arlington Community Foundation has established the Ashton Heights Womans Club Scholarship as a tribute to the club, which in 2006 donated its clubhouse to the foundation to provide proceeds for philanthropic efforts in the community.

Part of the funds were used to support establishment of the Youth Philanthropy Initiative and Fund for Youth Philanthropy, to connect high school students to the community through youth-led, youth-initiated projects.
