EAD and Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy present grants to 80 Abu Dhabi …

WAM Abu Dhabi, May 29th, 2011 (WAM) -- The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) and the Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy announced that 80 schools in Abu Dhabi Emirate have been awarded financial grants ranging between AED 3000-10,000 each for establishment and management of Eco club. Lamya Faisal, Head of the Environment Programme at the Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy, said: "Emirates Foundation is proud to be involved in EAD's Sustainable Schools Initiative. All schools registered under the Sustainable School Initiative have to set up an Eco club to translate awareness into action and to reach out to their parents and neighborhoods.
Students in SSI schools also have to measure their schools' environmental impacts and then set targets to address this impact.

The Rotary Club of the Stoningtons received numerous awards during this month's Rotary International District Conference in Sturbridge, Mass.

The club earned a Presidential Citation for demonstrating its commitment to fellowship and service, the Best Cooperative Projects Recognition for working with Rotary clubs across America to host a traveling cycling family, a Public Image Award for its role in the enhancement of Rotary International's public image and a Community Service Award.

The Howley Bread Group, based in Cumberland, R.I., has recognized a number of its employees for excellence and leadership during the first quarter of 2011.

The Howley Bread Group owns and operates 22 Panera Bread bakery-cafes in greater Hartford, eastern Connecticut, southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Among those honored was John Harrington of West Greenwich, R.I., named manager of the quarter. Giorno has joined the Giorno Shelton Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney's office in Mystic, where a team led by her and Matthew Shelton provide wealth management services.

Nettleton Scholarship for Business and the Rockbridge Arts Guild Scholarship to Hunter Suthers of Buena Vista. The Nettleton Scholarship was established through a gift to the Educational Foundation from the Nettleton Foundation in honor of Carolyn B. The Rockbridge Arts Guild Scholarship was created by the Guild to recognize a graduate of either Parry McCluer or Rockbridge County High School who will attend DSLCC and purse a degree in the Arts (Graphic Design, Art Education, Art History, Photography, or Fine Arts painting or sculpture.) The Guild was established in 1983 to give Rockbridge County artists a venue to display their works, to promote art in the Rockbridge County area, and to help make art accessible to all age and socio-economic groups."

The DSLCC Educational Foundation is dedicated to helping students from the college's service area Alleghany, Bath, northern Botetourt and Rockbridge Counties, the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, Lexington and the Town of Clifton Forge build brighter futures by providing access to post-secondary education. Community Foundation awarding grants to 36 groups

STAUNTON The Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge is awarding nearly $200,000 in grants to 36 area groups.

The funds are from the foundation's competitive grants program, which is an addition to the more than $800,000 it distributes in other grant, scholarship and award programs.

Community needs continue to be particularly compelling this year, and we are thankful to be able to invest in worthy programs that can directly serve the people of our community by providing food for the hungry, creating better lives for our children, supporting the arts, creating educational and counseling opportunities for youth and adults alike, and many other necessary and vital projects, says Christiana Shields, Grants Manager. Award will provide supplies.

American Shakespeare Center Brings middle and high school youth to the Blackfriars for reduced or free rates.

Augusta Regional Dental Clinic - Award will provide dental services to 600 children from low-income families in the area.

Blue Ridge Legal Services- Award will provide free high-quality legal advice and representation to low-income elderly persons in our area.

Boys and Girls Club- Award will support a program to promote diversity and combat bigotry, prejudice, and discrimination.

CASA -Award will Expedite placement of vulnerable children into safe, permanent, and nurturing homes, as part of the Court Advocacy for Abused/Neglected Children Project.

Salvation Army Waynesboro The Neediest Families Program is designed to meet the financial, emotional, and material needs of area families.

Shenandoah National Park Trust Award will help to draw visitors to Waynesboro for the Parks 75th Anniversary celebrations.

Shenandoah Valley Community Focus Funding will support an after school and summer program for troubled youth, in addition to parenting classes for the community.

Special Olympics of Virginia- Award will allow local athletes and coaches to compete in the Special Olympics Fall Championship Competition.

Staunton Music Festival- Award will provide a free concert series as part of the renowned Staunton Music Festival, including one for children.

Valley Aids Network- Award will provide emergency rental, utility, and heating assistance to Valley residents diagnosed with HIV/AIDS.

Valley Childrens Center- Provides a friendly environment and support services for children suffering from sexual or physical abuse.

Valley Conservation Council- Award will fund a series of free public presentations on conservation and planning practices for the community.

Valley Mission- Award will provide the resources to offer a formal life skills education program for mission residents.

Valley Symphonic Concerts- Sponsors professional musical performances and education to local students during the In-School Music Program.

Verona Community Food Pantry- Award will secure nutritious food to serve needy families in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County.

Volunteer Farm- A project to work with local high schools to grow produce for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

Valley Program for Aging Services- Award will provide AEDs for the Staunton and Churchville Senior Centers.

Wintergreen Adaptive Sports- A collaboration to bring 8 WWRC clients to weekly ski instruction and therapy.

Wayne Theatre Alliance- Award will purchase a system to amplify sound for the hearing impaired at performances.

Waynesboro Heritage Foundation- A series of educational Civil War performances for students.

Waynesboro Symphony Orchestra- Award will provide scholarships for string school students.

Waynesboro Family YMCA- Award will enhance lighting and security

Center for Small Towns receives Otter Bremer Foundation grant

The Center for Small Towns (CST) at the University of Minnesota, Morris has been awarded $91, 877 through the Otto Bremer Foundation to assist with numerous activities and projects. To date, CST has collaborated on more than 200 community-initiated projects engaged more than 1,500 University students with real life experience, community service, and hands-on training opportunities in rural communities provided opportunities for dozens of University of Minnesota, Morris faculty from across academic disciplines to participate in CST outreach programs and leveraged more than $2 million to assist small Minnesota communities.

This award will allow CST to sponsor more faculty research projects, strengthen the CST as a statistics and data resource, enhance the CSTs student involvement initiatives, and in some cases, help communities defray the costs of hiring a student through one of CSTs numerous programs, such as the AmeriCorps Students In Service program. The Otto Bremer Foundation owns the majority share of Bremer Bank, and a portion of the banks profits comes to the Foundation as dividends, enabling the Foundation to invest back in the bank communities in the form of grants and program-related investments.
