Community foundation awards grant to police for K-9 unit

The departments previous K-9 unit recently retired after working seven years together.

NEWS RELEASE-The Eau Claire Community Foundation recently awarded a grant for $7,200.00 to the Eau Claire Police Department to assist with the purchase of a new K-9 dog. This grant is supported by the Eau Claire Police Department Special Units Fund which is held by the Foundation.

The chemistry department at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University has had a remarkable summer securing two grants totaling $799,632 from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

The grants will support innovative changes to the chemistry department's curriculum, state-of-the-art equipment and scholarship support for chemistry students at CSB and its partner institution, Saint John's University.

The 2011 chemistry department grants followed on the heels of CSB's largest previous grant from NSF, $599,950 in December 2009 to fund MapCores, a scholarship and curriculum program for women interested in the fields of math, physics, computer science and engineering.

CEDAR RAPIDS The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation is accepting applications for the fall grant cycle from organizations that are in need of grant funding to enhance the quality of life in Linn County. 17, 2011.

The Community Fund provides time limited grants in the amount of $2,000 to $15,000 with the opportunity for renewal and seeks applications in all of the traditional categories Arts & Culture, Community Development, the Environment, Education and Health & Human Service.

The following Competitive Donor-Advised Funds are accepting applications in the fall grant cycle:

GreatAmerica Leasing
Lil Drug Store Products, Inc.
McGrath Automotive Group

The grant size and funding priority varies depending upon the priorities of each donor-advised fund.

August 31, 2011 The Wyoming Community Foundation has been chosen as one of 11 foundations nationally to receive funding from Partners Investing in Nursing's Future.

Led by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the Northwest Health Foundation, Partners Investing in Nursing's Future supports the capacity, involvement and leadership of local foundations to advance the nursing profession in their own communities.

The Wyoming Center for Nursing and Health Care Partnerships (WCNHCP) has forged local partnerships with a number of business, hospital and public health groups in an effort to create solutions for tackling nursing workforce issues specific to community needs.

The project's goals are closely aligned with the recommendations of a recent Institute of Medicine (IOM) report that seeks to prepare the nursing workforce to meet the needs of America's health care system and its patients and ensure an adequate supply of nurses for a growing, aging population.
