The Aspen Institute Youth Entrepreneurship Strategy Group YES GROUP, chaired by the President of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, and The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship NFTE launched the 'I Said Yes' campaign and released the nation’s first policymaker action guide on youth entrepreneurship education.
The guide was unveiled on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 during a Global Entrepreneurship Week YES GROUP Policy Briefing event at the Rayburn House Office Building, Washington, DC. The event, entitled We Say YES To Youth Entrepreneurship Education in America's Schools: What Policymakers Can Do to Prepare Youth for the Market Economy, focused on bringing about change in how youth are educated and empowered.

Reversing the blight has been a mission of the Hill Youth Action Team (HYAT) since the summer of 2006 when they scanned 40 local properties for abandoned houses, litter and vacant lots on the streets where they live. Their banner message “Save Our Society” still hangs over Howard Avenue and Minor Streets to remind everyone to get involved.

The CoastHills Community Foundation raised $33,000 at the Rancho Vino food, wine and entertainment event last month, the second annual event to help local food banks feed hungry children.
The BackPack Program, which began in 2006, provides backpacks full of nutritious food for children who are homeless or living in transient housing to eat on weekends. (more…)

The Community Foundation of East Mississippi hosted a meeting Friday to discuss childhood obesity in Mississippi.
The conversation was guided by Therese Hanna, executive director of the Center for Mississippi Health Policy, and Anne Travis, executive director of the Bower Foundation.

Local teens will be the beneficiaries and designers of a program at the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County.
The Citi Foundation is providing $20,000 to the Boys & Girls Club to implement a teen program, called Teens with Priorities, which will focus on bringing higher education opportunities to at-risk youth in Washington County.
A focus of the program will be on educational achievement and career goals.

Wild Rivers Community Foundation has spearheaded an effort to bring resources and awareness to the issue of dental disease on the Wild Rivers Coast.
"Wild Rivers Smiles!" was initiated by the foundation board, which recognized the need after consulting with the Community Assistance Network (CAN) and saw that this was a chance to convene partners to enhance community health," said Doug Morgan, executive director of CAN.
