California Tahoe Conservancy awards $7 million in grants for lakewide projects

California's commitment to its Tahoe Lake Basin continues to grow with a $7 million dollar grant from the California Tahoe Lake Conservancy. The grant will be used to further ongoing rehabilitation efforts, specifying in land purchases and Truckee River invasive weed removal.

Tom Lotshaw, the a spokesman for the Regional Planning Agency, was ecstatic about the grant, as it is the largest environmental grant the agency has had in some time. According to Lotshaw, this will enable them to rehabilitate a large part of the Upper Truckee River, helping to minimize the sediment pollution into Lake Tahoe, which is known for its clear waters.

The funding will also go towards spurring coordination at the federal, state, and local levels in regards to conservation of the area, as well as ensuring support for forest replanting and fire break projects.
