El Sierra School earned a grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation to have a set of solar panels installed on its roof, making it the second school in District 58 to make use of the alternative energy source.
The school also has received its Earth Flag Certification from SCARCE, the requirements for which include staff training and student education; reduction activities such as a waste-free lunch; and an ongoing school recycling policy.
