Grant Purpose - The program goal is to strengthen the financial sustainability of a leading Czech foundation whose mission is to promote and strengthen civil society in the Czech Republic. To this end, VIA Foundation will run an endowment-building program to raise at least $1 million and increase its total endowment to $3.3 million by the end of 2012. In addition, the foundation will strengthen its overall fundraising strategies and capacities. The foundation was established in 1997 as the successor organization of the American Foundation for a Civil Society. Since its establishment, the foundation has provided grants to more than 2,000 projects of nonprofit organizations in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Ukraine. In addition to grant support, the foundation provides capacity-building and networking opportunities to its grantees and actively participates in policy development relating to civil society and philanthropy.
