Grant Purpose - This general purpose grant renewal will help the National Center for Black Philanthropy, Inc., an organization that has encouraged giving and volunteerism among African Americans and educated the public on African-American philanthropy since 1997. During the previous grant period, the organization was able to hold three regional conferences and one national conference, continue its research on black business owners' giving habits, and provide philanthropy workshops and endowment training. With continued support, the National Center for Black Philanthropy will convene its 14th regional meeting in 2008, and hold its seventh National Conference on Black Philanthropy in 2009. In addition to continuing its endowment and fundraising training workshops for African-American organizations, running its Black Business and Philanthropy program, and publishing a book titled "A Philanthropic Covenant with Black America", the National Center for Black Philanthropy will focus on building its funding, management, and programmatic capabilities to ensure its long-term survival.
