Andrew 'Twiggy' Forrest, Western Australia's mining billionaire, will provide one of the single biggest acts of philanthropy in Australian history: a gift of $65 million to fund advanced tertiary research.
Forrest will make the announcement at a gala dinner at his alma mater, the University of Western Australia. Forrest will be joined at the dinner table by Prime Minister Tony Abbott, Western Australia Premier Colin Barnett, Governor Malcolm McCusker and 350 guests.
