E. Tyler Cathey, a 34-year-old attorney in Tampa, and Jess Joaquin Johnson, a 31-year-old real estate consultant in Tampa, pitched the idea of forming a "culture of philanthropy" to area entrepreneurs and business leaders at a forum sponsored by the Florida Next Foundation in July.
The purpose of the forum is to discuss how to make Florida a better place through acts of philanthropy. Through a partnership between Florida Next Foundation and the Community Foundation, along with Cathey and Johnson's idea, Give Day Tampa Bay was born.
