The Madison Community Foundation has given $697,500 in grants to 12 nonprofits in the Wisconsin city over the past few months, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
The grants were awarded in five focus areas: learning, community development, arts and culture, environment, and organizational capacity building.
"The community is enriched by each new development, from funding business entrepreneurship, to providing arts education in the schools, to strengthening the county's parks," Vice President of Community Impact Tom Linfield says in a statement.
One of the recipients, the Urban League of Greater Madison, plans to use the money to buy a larger, climate-controlled, lift-equipped reading bus.
"This is a true blessing, and we are very thankful for the continued support that we receive from the Madison Community Foundation," CEO Ruben Anthony says in a statement.
