Discussing the Need for Equity &Amp; Access in Women'S Health

Marissa Fayer says she "never wanted to leave" the field of medical technology she loved as a college student, and now that she's made her mark in it, she wants more women to follow in her footsteps.

Fayer is the CEO and co-founder of the nonprofit HEREQ, which works with women in developing countries to develop technology that can help them access medical care, Fast Company reports.

"I was seeing on a global scale that women were not able to access healthcare and for me, that's why I needed to merge my worlds," Fayer tells the magazine.

"I wanted to make sure women were incorporated in solution decisions and that there were few women-owned companies that focus on what I wanted my own firm to focus on."

Fayer founded HEREQ in 2013 after working as a VP at Hologic, where she saw a need for technology that could help women in developing countries, she tells the magazine.

Her company, which has raised more than $100 million from investors, focuses on ultrasound technology for women's health, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and non-skin diseases such as acne.
