The Virginia Community Foundation has awarded more than $68,000 to community organizations in the northern Minnesota town, including $10,000 in scholarships.

Paul Pioneer Press has the full list of recipients, which include the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, which received a $1,000 grant to create a tone poem for an orchestra and chorus; the Lyric Center, which received a $500 grant to support the Downtown Arts Virginia Program; and the Mesabi Humane Society, which received a $5,000 grant to support a project to turn the former Mesabi Family YMCA into a community exercise and recreation center.
The foundation is accepting applications until Sept.
30.
