When Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine opens in Fayetteville, NC, next year, it will be the first medical school in the Southeast, reports the Fayetteville Observer.
It will also be the first school of its kind in the state, and the first in the nation to offer a residency program for OB-GYNs, per a press release.
The school will be located in the Cape Fear Valley Health System, which is also home to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and is part of Cape Fear Valley Healththe parent company of Cape Fear Hospital.
"We've seen the value of training health care professionals and continuously learning," says CEO Michael Nagowski.
"As we move forward with our goal of building Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine, we wanted to encapsulate and acknowledge all these things with the addition of this new value."
The school will offer a two-year residency program for OB-GYNs, as well as a one-year program for residents in allied health fields.
The school will also offer a $2,000 education fund for non-degree-seeking employees, and an increase in tuition assistance payments for degree-seeking employees, to $5,250 a year.
