13 Innovators Shaping the Future of Health

"In an industry worth more than $800 billion, it's hard to stand out."

That's Fortune's take on its annual list of innovators who are making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

This year's honorees are doctors, scientists, entrepreneurs, and advocates on a mission to create a happier, healthier, and more equitable world.

US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy: "It turns out loneliness is a public health issue," he said earlier this year.

"And I would say it has risen to the level of being a public health crisis."

Founder of Metrodora Institute: "Our current health care system is not designed to diagnose, treat, and ultimately cure complex chronic diseases."

CEO of Instacart: "I was fainting constantly, I was feeling weak, and I went to see this neurologist.

He said, 'Sweetie, you're just a tired mom.'" Founder of Reframe: "We founded Reframe to break down the silos between different specialties of medicine and between clinical care and research."
