"And this year, we're thrilled to announce that we've made changes to involve newer and smaller nonprofits."

That's because the foundation's third annual "Big Day of Giving"which takes place on the second Saturday in May and lasts 24 hoursis now open to smaller nonprofits in the Sacramento area, as well as those in surrounding counties in El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, and Yolo, Fox 40 reports.

In its first two years, 762 nonprofits raised a total of $13.8 million during the day-long giving event.

This year's event will take place on Saturday, May 5, and the foundation is currently accepting donations at bigdayofgiving.org.
