About 135 people took part in the ninth annual Run for Taylor on Sunday morning.

The memorial event at Hamburg High, which featured a 5K run, 1-mile walk and fun-run for children, drew competitive athletes, weekend warriors and walkers of various ages.

“It is a very family-orient event,” coordinator Sue Phillips said of the run held in remembrance of Taylor N. Seitzinger, a Hamburg High senior.

An honor student and outstanding athlete, Seitzinger of Perry Township died in 2009 of injuries sustained in a Tilden Township car crash.

Sunday’s event raised $5,200 for a Hamburg High School scholarship fund, managed by the Berks County Community Foundation, which selects the yearly winners of the scholarship. Seitzinger Hamburg High School Scholarship Fund was established shortly after Taylor’s death to provide scholarships to graduating Hamburg students.

Preference is given to those attending DeSales University, which Taylor had planned to attend, or to those who will be playing women’s soccer in college.

However, any student planning to pursue a four-year degree can apply.
