Julian Thomas school receives grant for learning aids

RACINE Julian Thomas Elementary School has received a $143 grant to purchase materials that will focus on integrating science and social studies into math concepts from The Meemic Foundation, a nonprofit organization created by Meemic Insurance Co. She will make use of learning aids, such as manipulatives, books that are at their ability level and interest level, materials to create cross-curricular and hands-on activities that can be done in small groups or one-on-one with the special education teacher.

“Exceptional educators are always looking for new and creative ways to inspire their students and we want to make sure that financial concerns don’t stand in the way of those ideas,” said Roy Hinz, community advocacy administrator for the Meemic Foundation. “The goal of Meemic Foundation grants is to provide the resources necessary for teachers to create a dynamic learning environment for students that not only educates the children but inspires them as well.”

Grant applications are evaluated based on a variety of criteria that are provided on The Meemic Foundation website. The Foundation looks to fund innovative programs, events or projects that will significantly enhance students’ classroom experiences in all educational settings including public, private, parochial and charter schools as well as colleges and universities.

The Meemic Foundation has been offering financial assistance in the form of grants to schools and educators for more than 20 years. What began as a college scholarship program has expanded into a Foundation that has touched more than 1.5 million students through its financial support of education initiatives.

Meemic provided grants to various Wisconsin schools to enhance the education experience for their students.

Susan Bahary was selected by the Anaheim Community Foundation, which has taken the lead in bringing the statues, for $40,000 each, to two new dog parks under construction in Anaheim.

When completed, one of the memorials will be placed at a dog park opening this fall at La Palma Park, where many of Anaheim’s police dogs train.
