Integris to assess community’s top health needs – News – The Miami News-Record – Miami, OK MIAMI Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami is currently working to assess Oklahoma’s three main health needs: obesity, heart disease and mental health. The needs were reported and discussed at the monthly Partners of Ottawa County Inc. Other projects the coalition is involved with are Bright Futures Miami, Man-Up and Running Wild.Summer Beck, Integris Community Education Coordinator and POCI vice-president, said that the hospital is initiating the second cycle of the requirements associated with its community health needs assessment (CHNA) and subsequent development of the community health improvement plan.”In order for the non-profit hospitals to maintain their tax exempt status, we now have new requirements in regards to how we go about distributing our community benefit dollars out in our community,” Beck said. We must do a CHNA, develop a community health improvement plan based on that assessment and work with coalitions to decide what our priority areas will be.”INTEGRIS administered a survey to update the CHNA that POCI is working to develop through the Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) assessment. If any individual would like to teach the class, contact McAffrey at 918-787-2104.Page 2 of 3 – In other action group reports, the school based social workers reported that they are currently working on the College Bound Program with second and fifth graders from all Miami schools.Afton and Fairland schools continue to use their designated funds for Farm-to-School and Tobacco prevention/cessation efforts as their Partnerships Improving Community Health (PICH) grant activities. Kelly Butcher, right, talks Thursday about how she and Tracy Meinzer will use funds from a mini grant at Garden City High School after being awarded the grant by the Garden City Public Schools Foundation.

Several local teachers received min-grants Thursday designed to help them enhance instruction in their classrooms

Teachers who received mini-grants included Skyler Lightner, Jennie Wilson Elementary School; Dawni Lunzmann, Kenneth Henderson Middle School; Alicia Simpson, Garden City High School; Tracy Meinzer and Kelly Butcher, GCHS; and Tara Boaldin, Jennie Barker Elementary School.

The Garden City Public Schools Foundation Grant Squad presented the awards in surprise celebrations in teachersa classrooms.

The foundation received 16 grant applications from staff around the school district. The applications are read and judged by the Garden City Public Schools Foundation committee.

Lightner, ESL Interventionist at Jennie Wilson, will use the grant to purchase the Six Minute Solution program to help increase reading fluency for students. The goal would be to help engage students to increase their reading ability and help them present their research and views in class.

Meinzer and Butcher, English Language Arts teachers at GCHS, will use the grant to provide a scholarship to motivate students with their top projects that they create for an upcoming Human Rights Expo at the school. This will help aid in communication efforts of students to convey their ideas, motivate students to present their research findings and engage students to learn from each other.

The foundation was founded in 2004 and is a nonprofit organization that offers the opportunity to enhance the learning environment, increase the effectiveness of instruction and help strengthen and broaden ties between the schools and community.

Finish line in sight for Arts Center renovations

Finish line in sight for Arts Center renovations | Springville Journal Despite our success with these grants the organization still has a very small operating budget and we have no means to fund this work on ticket sales or workshop fees.”

Mary Anderson, Lynne Giroux, Joanne May and Chelsea May work on the gallery railing.

The church building was first purchased in 2007 with member donations. In late 2012, after years of denials, the organization was awarded several major state matching grants, which helped push the project into construction.

Work in this phase included roof replacement, wood repair, masonry restoration, foundation work, construction of a classroom, installation of an elevator, creation of new bathrooms and renovation of the Olmsted Gallery. While most of the work has been finished, a funding gap to complete the elevator and bathrooms has prevented the new spaces from being fully occupied.

After a plywood cutting ceremony, an exhibit of photography by Richard Stamps was held in the uncompleted gallery last summer so that members could see the progress and understand the remaining work.

Improvements to the theater are planned in the future but the current renovations were limited to the exterior and south wing of the building.
