The human service council in New York has completed an investigation into the state of nonprofits following the collapse of FEGS and has reached the conclusion that government agencies should fund contracts, develop better regulations, and ensure that nonprofits have viable plans for risk management and better trusteeship of their organizations. None of these recommendations were surprising to veterans of the non-profit world, however, and many have faulted the HSC for conducting a routine and simple investigation.
In a turbulent operating environment, other groups such as SeaChange Capital, which funds and focuses on nonprofits, slightly agree with HSC's assessment, but lays out plans for nonprofits to better manage their endowments and to stay afloat in a competitive and financially constrained time.
