Arts+, which first started as a Community School of the Arts in Charlotte for almost 50 years, is celebrating its golden anniversary with grants, experimental workspaces, and growth plans.
Arts+ has received its first-ever grant from National Endowment of the Arts, totaling $20,000. The grant has already funded visits by nationally known artists and will pay for more. It is called The ReEmprise Fund, which will help further raise the group's profile.
Arts+ will also be relocating to a new space from its Spirit Square quarters, called The Bridge, which allows group members to be "more exploratory, more interested in how a process works," according to Devlin McNeil, Arts+ president and executive director.
The Bridge, although not a permanent space (only for an 18-month lease), will offer drop-in studio hours, plus recurring classes and workshops.
