The Brown Foundation, Inc. was established in July 1951 by Herman and Margarett Root Brown and George R. and Alice Pratt Brown.
The mission of the Brown Foundation is to distribute funds for public charitable purposes, principally for support, encouragement and assistance to education, the arts and community service.
The foundation focuses on the field of public education at the primary and secondary levels. It also focuses on supporting non-traditional and innovative approaches which are designed to improve public education primarily within the State of Texas.
Pedagogy of the Oppressed, a 1970s book by author Paulo Freire, envisions a world not as a given reality, but as “a problem to be worked on and solved.” That mentality is often applied to the greatest social entrepreneurs.
