Centre for Promotion of Civil Society Grant

Organization - Centre for Promotion of Civil Society
Grant Amount - $60,000
Foundation - Mott Foundation
Grant Purpose - The program goals are to involve more people in Bosnia and Herzegovina in decisionmaking processes and to support the development of the nonprofit sector as an effective vehicle for civic participation. The Centre for Promotion of Civil Society will work toward these goals by playing an active leadership role in the nonprofit sector and carrying out a range of activities in its two main program areas: public policy and civil society. These activities will include training and consultations for local government and civic groups; publishing a monthly journal with information on European policies, standards, and practices relevant to local government officials; and compiling a range of practical resource materials for local government officials in the local language. Finally, the grantee will serve as a resource center for the nonprofit sector, providing resources and information, training, and networking opportunities for the sector on key issues. During the past two years, the center built a database of nonprofit organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and strengthened cross-sector cooperation in 50 municipalities. The center is based in Sarajevo and has two field offices in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
