Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Grant

Organization - Robert F. Kennedy Memorial
Grant Amount - $50,000
Foundation - Mott Foundation
Grant Purpose - "Speak Truth to Power" is a multifaceted education initiative that brings much-needed attention to courageous human rights activists around the world and the continuing human rights problems that they and their countries face. What began as a book of interviews of more than 50 human rights defenders on four continents grew into an ongoing project that includes a play based upon the defenders' words, traveling photographic exhibitions, educational curricula, a documentary film, and public service announcements. This grant to Robert F. Kennedy Memorial will provide partial support for bringing the play, photographic exhibitions, curricula, and public discussion forums to Johannesburg and Cape Town. Hosted by prominent South African institutions and individuals, the South Africa production of "Speak Truth to Power" will feature human rights heroes from the African continent and will highlight the relevance of human rights issues to South Africa's history and its future.
