Kemper and Leila Williams Foundation

In 1938, General and Mrs. L. Kemper Williams bought two properties in the French Quarter, a decision which later led to a commitment to preservation and to the acquiring of a major collection of historical Louisiana materials. With the deaths of Leila and Kemper Williams, in 1966 and 1971 respectively, a foundation bearing their names was established, thereby creating The Historic New Orleans Collection, an endowed institution.
