Ben Garcia is the new director of the American LGBTQ+ Museum, set to open in 2024 in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Garcia, who will be the museum's first executive director, says he's "thrilled" and "honored" to lead the project that will showcase "the stories of people from all walks of life who have made Los Angeles a great place to live and work."

The Chronicle notes that the new museum will focus on the history of the LGBTQ community, and will include exhibits on the history of same-sex marriage, the history of the civil rights movement, and more.

Garcia, who was previously deputy executive director at the Ohio History Connection, says he plans to use his new position to "counter the misinformation and misunderstandings about the LGBTQ community."
