Collins Arrey, Tianya Hunter, and Thinh Nguyen are the first recipients of a new scholarship created in 2021 to help students aging out of Georgia's foster care system, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
According to a press release, the Fostering Education Scholarship was created to help students who would like to pursue a degree to offset the financial burden of earning a degree.
"The instability of life in foster care often proves to be a distraction from learning and school performance," the release states.
"Financial resources, mentorship, support, and stability are not commonly available to help these individuals complete degree programs that lead to well-paying, stable employment," the release states.
Arrey, Hunter, and Nguyen will receive $7,500 scholarships for the fall 2022 semester.
