African-American barbers in Akron, Ohio, will soon be getting a boost in their mental and physical health.

The county has allocated $46,500 to Beyond Expectations Barber College to fund its "Who's in the Chair" program, which will include training for barbers and student barbers on mental health and well-being, the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

"We believe the program will have a positive impact in the African-American community," says college director Eric Garrett Sr.

The program will include counselors, coordinators, facilitators, and guest speakers who will help barbers and their clients "increase awareness, encouragement, and resources surrounding the overall physical and mental health and wellbeing of clients and employees in the college and it three Akron area barber shops," Garrett says.
