The Staten Island Foundation gets a $1 million grant from The American Red Cross to support recovery services for victims of Superstorm Sandy.
The grant money aims to deliver financial support to community-based, disaster recovery organizations within Staten Island's hardest-hit areas. It will also be distributed through The Staten Island Foundation Nonprofit Recovery Fund, a special fund that was established to aid people affected by Superstorm Sandy.

Three social enterprises were recognized at the 2013 President’s Challenge Social Enterprise Award for their major contributions to society. SATA CommHealth and Bliss Restaurant landed Social Enterprise of the Year titles, while Bettr Barista Coffee Academy bagged the award for Social Enterprise Start-up of the Year.
