When the Covid-19 pandemic struck, Brooks Finby was quarantined inside a house and turned to movies and music for comfort.
"The more films I watched, the more I grew to appreciate the art form in all of its complexities," the Duke University student writes in his summer internship diary at independent film company A24, which is based in southern California.
His top four favorite films at the moment are Y Tu Mam ?'Tambi ? 'n, Princess Mononoke, Arrival, and City of God.
"In terms of music, the pandemic gave me more free time than ever to listen to music, allowing me to greatly expand my taste," Finby writes.
"I love making curated playlists and bi monthly song dumps on Spotify (@bfinby1)."
Finby, who says he's "fascinated by how media shapes how we see the world and, in turn, how we engage with it," will be working as a PR intern, assisting the company's publicity team with press breaks, review round-ups, festival coverage, screening reports, note-taking on internal PR strategy meetings, and more.
