Last summer, President Obama signed the biggest-ever climate change law into law, and since then, more than $270 billion in clean-energy investments have been made in the US, creating more than 170,000 jobs, Bloomberg reports.
"And tackling climate change by building out the clean energy economy has indeed proven to be one of the country’s greatest economic opportunities of the 21st century," writes Matthew Yglesias at Ceres, a sustainability non-profit.
"The scale of the investments made in year one has been catalyticwhich only bodes well for the future."
In fact, Yglesias writes, "the US will have a real chance to profoundly shape the future by establishing itself as the global leader in clean energy developmentgiving it crucial geopolitical advantages as the world economy adjusts to confront climate change."
