Old Bill's Fun Run Has Raised $228 Million For Teton County Charities

Every year, residents of Teton County, Wyoming, fork over the equivalent of $1,000 per person willingly and gleefully.

It's not escalating property taxes, it's what's known as Old Bill's Fun Run, a race with no finish line and a "marathon of generosity with hundreds of winners," per the Jackson Hole News & Guide.

An avid runner, Old Bill was inspired to create a community fundraising event centered around a not-so-competitive race.

These days, there are 5K and 10K divisions for youth, men, and women.

The winners of each race receive prize money to donate to their favorite nonprofits.

In 2022, the Fun Run raised $19,957,301.

In fact, each year, the tote board seems to register higher and higher totals.

Could 2023 break the $20 million mark raised each year? "Whether you give $5 dollars or $5,000, you are making a difference in the lives of everyone in Teton County through local nonprofits," says Laurie Andrews, Community Foundation of Jackson Hole president.

The idea was hatched by a local couple who chose to remain anonymous.

They are simply referred to as Mr. and Mrs. Old Bill.

The event has raised more than $228 million since its inception in 1997.
