A New York university is taking a stand against climate change in a big way.
Stony Brook University's School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences is joining forces with the New York Climate Exchange to hold the "largest annual climate event of its kind" from Sept.
17-24 in New York City, per a university press release.
The exchange, which is located on Governors Island, aims to bring together "changemakers from business, government, and civil society for a vibrant agenda driving climate action and championing change," the release notes.
Stony Brook's SoMAS is the designated center for marine and atmospheric sciences on Long Island, and its research focuses on issues such as ocean acidification, sea level rise, hurricanes, storm surge, flooding, winter storms, ecology, disaster planning, and recovery, and the effects of climate change on human health, per the press release.
As part of Climate Week NYC, SoMAS is hosting a number of events, including a composting class and a tour of the exchange's future home on Governors Island.
