Quad Cities Community Foundation Awards Grants through Various Programs

An Illinois couple who died two years ago have left $131,000 in grants to local nonprofit organizations.

The Quad Cities Community Foundation says the grants are the largest it has ever awarded through the annual competitive grant cycle, the Quad-City Times reports.

The grantsranging from $1,000 to $10,000are the work of the Brissman Foundation, which was founded by John Brissman and his wife, Virginia.

The husband and wife started Brissman's Auto Supply in Milan, Ill., more than 50 years ago and were active in the community, the Quad-City Times reports.

Virginia Brissman worked for 40 years with Illinois Bell before retiring in 1977.
