That foundation provides a $30,000 grant to each of two elementary schools in a school district.

Because of his relationship with the foundation in Texas, Cooper, school district Chief Operations Officer Paul Salina and Board of Education Chairwoman Sharon Beloin-Saavedra got the chance to visit the New York City headquarters of the music channel in December.

VH1 sent a foundation representative to visit several schools in January and a two weeks ago a the district was notified they would be invited to apply for two school grants.

The district will be notified of a decision in August and, if the grants are received, Chamberlain and Vance elementary schools would be equipped with dozens more instruments in September. It is the hope of the district, Salina said, that all 10 city elementary schools will receive a $30,000 foundation grant over the next five years.

Salina, New Britain High School band director from 1975 to 1993, said VH1 aknows that Kelt is a strong supporter of the arts and that New Britain has had a strong history of music programs throughout the district since the 1940s.a



UK will be celebrating its first national celebration of social enterprises dubbed as Social Saturday. World famous celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, who founded the Fifteen restaurant chain.
