Though the Womenas Care Center raised more than any single charity across the nation in Tuesdayas Give Local campaign a a whopping $454,980 a President Ann Manion recalls a time when awe werenat sure we wanted to dive into this May 5th thing.a

But Give Local did mean a lot of hard, consistent publicity for some of the nonprofits who took part Tuesday, causing the St. Joseph County event to be one of the top finishers among about 50 Give Local campaigns across the country, including big cities like New Orleans and Sacramento.

1 in the nation until late Wednesday morning, when the Give Local America website added dollars to a South Carolina community listed as aCoastal,a pushing it to first place with almost $7.2 million.

But, even on Wednesday, there was a roughly $51,000 discrepancy between the grand total taken in by area nonprofits on the local and on the national websites, thanks to local donors whoad mistakenly given more than they intended online (by an extra a0a, for example), which took a while to rectify on the national site, said Laura Moran Walton, communications director of the Community Foundation of St.

Late on Tuesday, the local leader board at GiveLocalSJC.org had zoomed upwards from nearly $4 million to about $6.7 million as organizers at the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County had been working on its Give Local campaign for months, putting the word out through volunteer groups, churches, supportive businesses and others on its mailing list a and asking students to put it on social media, said Director Jim Williams.

The South Bend Youth Symphony Orchestras finished well, with $216,457, thanks to a six-figure gift from the local Georgina Joshi Foundation, honoring the familyas daughter, whoad played and served as concert master. Director Diane Persin Economakis said she knew a few weeks ago that the foundation would be donating as part of Give Local day but didnat know how much until more recently.



UK will be celebrating its first national celebration of social enterprises dubbed as Social Saturday. World famous celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, who founded the Fifteen restaurant chain.
