Local women receive ATHENA honors – New Castle News: News

McDonough was awarded the Jameson Health System Hoye Award for the creation of innovative programs or services that contribute to the health of our communication for implementation of a document imaging and forms management system.

The Diamond Girls program founders, Michele Perelman and Octavia Payne of New Castle, accepted the award.

Eight additional women were nominated and honorees recognizing their professional achievements, contributions to their communities, and their examples of leadership and mentoring of the next generation of women leaders.

The ATHENA Leadership Award honorees were Karen Anderson, inside sales representative for Wendell August Forge; April Brown, emergency services coordinator for the Prince of Peace Center; Karen Dahl, dietitian/diabetes educator for the Veterans Health Administration; and Connie Gerba, benefit department manager for Gilbertas Risk Solutions.

The ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award honorees were June Bruckner, owner/chef of the Bluegrass Kitchen Mobile Cafe; Leta Jeffers, director of the Thiel Fund at Thiel College; Andrea Paulden, outsourced risk manager for Gilbertas Risk Solutions; and Jolene Stieb, instructor for Butler County Community College.

When Hannah Davis   traveled to China to teach English, she noticed how Chinese workers and farmers were often sporting olive green army-style shoes. Those shoes served as her inspiration to create her own social enterprise, Bangs Shoes.
