COLCHESTER Colchester will soon apply for $800,000 in state grant money to improve parts of the Dublin Village senior housing complex.Town Planner Randall Benson said the planned work would include repaving the parking lot in the complex, remodeling bathrooms and installing additional sidewalks and exterior lighting.DublinVillage has 40 units of age-restricted housing off Lebanon Avenue and is approximately 45 years old.Tenant Louis Delpivo, a resident for 12 years, is looking forward to the work. The sidewalks and the parking lot really need the work.”Colchester Housing Authority Executive Director Rob Gustafson said the lot hadn’t been resurfaced in more than 20 years.”It’s well past its expected life,” he said.The town is applying for the grant and would perform the work because DublinVillage is administered by the Colchester Housing Authority.Colchester will apply for up to $800,000 in Small Cities Community Development Block Grant funds. That’s the maximum amount the town can apply for under the grant’s Public Housing Modernization category.Projects that receive CDBG money must meet any one of several objectives, including benefiting low- and moderate-income people.The town must hold a public hearing prior to submitting the application. Shilosky said Colchester routinely applies for grants for projects such as streetscape improvements and open space land acquisition.”We apply for as many grants as we can,” he said. “Some years we get a grant and in the years where we don’t, we’re still on a waiting list and we move up to the top on the list for the next year.”Gustafson said that in addition to the CDBG grant, the authority hopes to get more state funding eventually to do a “phase 2″ of work, including constructing a building for storage. mainImageContainerInnerHTML_sm += ”+mainImageData_credit+”; mainImageContainerInnerHTML_sm += ”+mainImageData_caption+”; $(‘#art-main-image-credit-container_sm’).css(‘width’,smimgwidth).css(‘padding’,’3px ‘+(mainImageData_leftPadding – 3)+’px 0 0’); $(‘#art-main-image-caption-container_sm’).css(‘width’,sm_img.width).css(‘padding’,’5px 0 0 ‘+(mainImageData_leftPadding + 3)+’px’); $(‘#art-main-image-caption-container’).css(‘width’,img.width).css(‘padding’,’5px 0 0 ‘+mainImageData_leftPadding+’px’);
