Area pre-K programs get grant help

Pre-K classrooms in the Mid Valley, North Pocono, Carbondale Area and Wallenpaupack Area school districts recently opened in order to get 75 days of classroom time before the end of the school year, said Sam Ceccacci, executive director of the agency.

The organization was awarded $380,775 to educate 60 children under the Head Start Supplementary Assistance Program, which targets low-income families and is funded by the state Department of Education, said Mr. 21 that, through the grant funding, more than 5,300 new slots in Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts and 980 in the Head Start Supplemental Assistance Program were made available. The district has had a waiting list of about 20 students for the past three years for its four pre-K classrooms, which are funded through a combination of Pre-K Counts grants, Head Start grants and district funds, Mr. The additional fifth classroom will be run by Head Start until next school year.
