BEDFORD a The Lawrence County Community Foundation is currently in the midst of its 2016 open grant cycle. Dollars made available from these grants can help groups and organizations to carry out projects that they might otherwise be unable to afford.
A good example is what the local Knights of Columbus Council has been able to accomplish in recent years with the help of LCCF grants.
For 38 consecutive years the Knights have conducted their Tootsie Roll Drive to raise funds that are used to help local children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The recipients of these funds have been the LARC Center, the former Englewood School, and more recently, the Special Education Department within the North Lawrence Community Schools.
aFor the first 30 some years our annual fundraising effort was limited to canister collections that took place over a two-day period at the entrances of several local businesses.
