Caliche Elementary has received a $100,000 GOCO grant to install new playground equipment, replacing the current equipment, much of which has been in place since the 1980s. (Journal-Advocate file photo)The Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) Board awarded a $100,000 School Yard Initiative grant on Monday to Logan County in partnership with Caliche Elementary School. Funded schools also become part of Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Schools and Outdoor Learning Environment (SOLE) program that provides field trips, family nature nights, and outdoor education training for teachers. Schools that receive this funding are often in underserved communities that lack safe access to quality parks or outdoor places to play, states a GOCO press release. GOCO funding has supported improvements to the county fairgrounds, North Sterling State Park, and community parks in Sterling, Fleming, and other Logan County communities.
