SATURDAY SALUTE: Teachers’ impact huge

”+ ”+ ”+ ”+ ”+ ” ”;

A hearty Saturday Salute goes this week to Cathy Howard and Tracy Morrow, this yearas recipients of the Kim West Dinsdale Excellence in Teaching Awards given annually by the Grand Island Community Foundation.

There were more than 100 nominations of teachers from every school in Hall County this year.

Howard, an English teacher at Grand Island Central Catholic, was nominated by Jen Myers, Hall County Court magistrate, who was a student in Howardas class 25 years ago and spoke in the nomination of the impact she still has on her 25 years later. Thank you to Morrow and Howard for all they do to help their students, as well as all the teachers in our communities who are making a difference in our childrenas lives.

Acts of kindness always in season

We also salute the AOK Ladies, a group of about 80 members whose sole goal is to encourage acts of kindness in our community.

Last Sunday, the groupas members visited nine stores throughout Grand Island and randomly handed out gift cards to harried customers hurrying to get their Christmas shopping done.

The pink cards attached to the gift cards encouraged the shoppers to apass it ona by doing random acts of kindness for others.

aWe just want them to spread acts of kindness to someone else,a Lisa Thayer of the AOK Ladies said that day.
