For the fourth consecutive year, the Office of Vice Provost for Research and Economic Development at the University of Arkansas will award faculty research grants through its Arts and Humanities Seed Funding Program.

The funded projects are intended to enrich the research and professional growth of the faculty member and the U of A and result in new opportunities for research or other creative endeavors.

The panel will discuss the reviews and develop a recommendation for funding to the vice provost for research and economic development.

The Safe Routes to School program provides funding for projects such as replacing blacktop walking paths with proper sidewalks, such as parts of Oradell Avenue (pictured), better drainage at crosswalks where children cross to their school and other initiatives that promote walking and bicycling. The program has two components for which the borough can apply for grants the Safe Routes to Schools grant and Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) grant.

The Safe Routes to School program provides funding for projects such as sidewalks on pedestrian routes to a school where none currently exist, better drainage at crosswalks where children cross to their school and other initiatives that promote walking and bicycling as part of daily life for students in New Jersey.

In order to apply for a Safe Routes to School Grant, Casey said the council would have to liaise with the school administration and board of education in order to prove children would actually walk that route to school.

The Moore Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program is a national 10-week, paid summer research fellowship that aims to diversify applicants who want to pursue a graduate degree or faculty position in the humanities, social sciences or fine arts. Mellon Foundation, it will be able to do so better.

This is great, and this board is excited to see the great work MURAP participants go on to do.

The program’s ultimate goal is to increase minority representation in graduate level studies.

Students spend their summer paired with a mentor and are required to attend workshops and GRE review sessions.

Currently, the program boasts an alumni base of 468 students as of July 2015 and continues to accept 22 students per cohort. programs and 12 percent are teaching at major colleges or universities.

While programs like MURAP are rare, opportunities like these are important.

Without a doubt, UNC has a long way to go before it can call itself “diverse.”

RURAL primary schools in South Lakeland may soon have to raid teaching budgets and sacrifice resources after the Government announced a support grant that helps fund free school meals is to be cut. Schools that are to lose the grant include Ambleside CofE Primary School; Goodly Dale Primary School, Windermere; Coniston CofE Primary School; Allithwaite CofE Primary School; Cartmel CofE Primary School; Bentham Community Primary School; Caton Community Primary School and Caton St Paul’s CofE Primary School. One school that is facing hardship with the loss of the grant is Grayrigg Church of England Primary School, near Kendal, and headteacher Kirsty Cooper insists the move will be bad news for her school. Mark Squires, head at Selside Church of England Primary School, said his school has had to spend an additional 7,000 annually on staff since obligatory free school meals were introduced in September 2014 before then they got by with two workers during lunch times. Unless the government continues to support the provision of free school meals in these schools, their ability to provide excellent teaching will be jeopardised as they have to use their other budgets to provide meals. Lassen Park Foundation reaches goal to build youth camp

The Lassen Park Foundation has reached its goal of raising more than $400,000 in private contributions to complete Volcano Adventure Camp at Lassen Volcanic National Park.

The National Park Service has allocated $200,000 for the project.

The camp, which is designed to accommodate school and youth groups several of which include at-risk children will open this summer during the 100th anniversaries of Lassen Volcanic National Park and the National Park Service.

“None of the park’s existing campgrounds were built to accommodate school or youth groups,” said Lassen Superintendent Steve Gibbons. “That put us over the top and assured that the youth campground will be finished this summer and is the best possible way to commemorate Lassen Volcanic National Park’s and National Park Service’s 100th anniversaries, as it is a gift to future generations of park visitors.”

We feel honored to be a partner in creating a magical camping experience for kids from all over the North State and beyond.”

Now that funding for completion of Volcano Adventure Camp has been achieved, the foundation’s Executive Director Jennifer Finnegan is announcing plans to fund an endowment to assure that youth camping grants continue to be available and expanded for groups of at risk children.

“It’s a gift that changes these kids’ lives for the better.”

Finnegan said the LPF will open opportunities to apply for youth camping grants at the new Volcano Adventure Camp in springtime.
