Grant Purpose - The project goal is to strengthen the capacity of selected regional universities to contribute to locally defined community development priorities in Russia. The project will consist of three key elements: capacity building of universities with respect to community outreach and development of responsive community services; participatory community needs assessments focused on identifying priority projects and the resources available and necessary to implement them; and grant-funded community development projects aimed at enhancing availability and relevance of university resources to local communities. Established in 2003, the New Eurasia Foundation, has extensive experience in working to modernize Russian universities, as well as in expanding the community schools model in Russia. Its work is aimed at fostering a broad range of cross-sectoral partnerships to assist in Russia's social and economic development.
