UofL Health Equity Innovation Hub awards $1 million for research to improve health outcomes

"We all want to be healthy and whole, but the choices people make are the choices people have," says professor Monica Wendel of the University of Louisville's Health Equity Innovation Hub.

"Our goal with the Hub and with this research is to dismantle these barriers and thus empower people and communities."

The Hub, a collaboration between the university, Humana, and Humana Inc., has awarded more than $1 million in research funding to 10 projects aimed at closing health equity gaps in communities that have been marginalized, the Courier-Journal reports.

"These factors play a huge role in our health outcomes," Wendel says.

The projects, which received up to $100,000 per year for up to three years, will focus on areas such as mental and physical health care, healthy food, and trauma recovery, the Courier-Journal reports.
