The Chicago Tribune's parent company is putting its money where its mouth is.

For the third year in a row, the Robert R.

McCormick Foundation has teamed up with the Daily Herald in suburban Chicago to launch the newspaper's Neighbors in Need campaign, which asks readers to donate $1 for every dollar they donate to local nonprofits.

The McCormick Foundation, which operates Cantigny Park in Wheaton, Ill., gives each dollar donation 50 cents, meaning charities receive $1.50 for every $1 donated, the Tribune reports.

The five organizations receiving grants this year: the Chicago Dental Society Foundation, District 214 Cares, Lazarus House, Northern Illinois Food Bank, and WINGS.

Last year, the campaign raised $75,000, with $50,000 coming from readers and $25,000 in matching funds.

In 2021, five organizations received $10,000 individual grants.

"Hunger, homelessness, and health care inequity exist right in our backyard," Daily Herald VP of sales and marketing Eileen Brown says in a statement.

"In partnering with the McCormick Foundation, we can help shine a spotlight on a few of the nonprofits to combat these issues, as well as offering them financial support through the generosity of our readers."
