OUR VIEW: Las Cruces-bound Moore will be sorely missed in Rio Rancho

OUR VIEW: Las Cruces-bound Moore will be sorely missed in Rio Rancho | Editorial | rrobserver.com OUR VIEW: Las Cruces-bound Moore will be sorely missed in Rio Rancho

Debbi Moore has been a dedicated advocate for the Rio Rancho business community and one of the cityas best-known ambassadors for nearly 14 years.

A new chapter in her career a and for the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce a begins at the end of this week when she steps down as the president & CEO of the organization to take her talents south to Las Cruces, where sheall head the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce.

Moore, who came to Rio Rancho in May 2002 from the American Diabetes Association and just before that, the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, was one of a dozen candidates for the Las Cruces position.

Thatas a little less competition she had when she bid for the Rio Rancho job. Moore recalls the longest-serving CEO before her arrival was 27 months.

Over the years, of course, sheas been a leading advocate for the cityas business community, particularly small business owners, speaking out on city and statewide issues of concern to them, and encouraging Rio Ranchoans to shop locally.

But to Rio Ranchoas great fortune, it was not all chamber business she committed herself to.

She chaired the mayoras sign ordinance task force and was executive director of the Rio Rancho Community Foundation, which annually awarded grants to promote educational excellence.

In 2009, and again in 2013, Moore was elected to the District 3 seat on the Central New Mexico Community College Governing Board, representing Rio Rancho and Corrales. Last year, she was elected chair.

Anyone whoas attended a chamber-sponsored event, be it a groundbreaking for the cityas newest branch bank or dentist office or the annual meeting of the chamber of commerce, can attest to her genuine enthusiasm and desire to make Rio Rancho a better place to live.

aAll I can say is we are losing a huge community asset with her departure,a is how Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull reacted to news of her departure.

We wish the chamber well in its search for Mooreas successor, and best of luck to Moore and her husband, Bill, in Las Cruces.
